First week back from Spring Break

I'm sooo tired! But so very grateful to be back! The week was crazy busy and the kids took some time getting back into the swing of things but overall it's been fun! We're trying to put together all the pics from break and I've gotten a few more from other people! So keep an eye out on pics!!

Adding to that I would like to point out that it is the last weekend of March and we got another 2 inches of snow yesterday with more expected tomorrow! But it's beautiful and I'd rather have snow than mud so it works all the same! And I'm still not ready for the mud!

And I would like to point out I had a bag of tangerines left that were getting soft...so I made juice (not that fun to do by hand by the way!) But it actually turned out good and I'm much more interested in the fresh squeezed with pulp than I ever was before! It rocks!! Plus I've finally figured out how to make rice without it coming out crazy!! (Thanks to Staci!!) So enjoy the new pics!!

It's over...

Ok so when I get a chance I'll upload more Spring Break pics but overall it was a riot! We ended up with almost 12 inches of fresh powder on the mountain throughout the week! Alyeska is beautiful and it's THE ski resort in Alaska! Plus it was just bought out and will be expanding even more in the next few years! We played hard and overall really enjoyed the week. Kyle, Krissy and Ben spend a lot of their time snowboarding, while Staci skied for two days. I, on the other hand, enjoyed reading and just hanging out. We were able to hear some live music and go to some really good restaurants that were in the town. Places like Sitzmark and Chair 5...

Friday we headed back to Anchorage to get some shopping down and get ready to fly back. Between Staci and I our luggage weighed over 300 pounds...so we had to leave some of it and we're hoping to see it sooner than later this week but you never know! And we'll find out. But it was so nice to come home with milk and tangerines and cheese! Plus I even got some yogurt!! It's sooo not like me but oh well it's all good!!

As glad as I was to be home I'm glad we went and now I'm glad to be in the final stretch of the year! This week's plan is to register for classes and finalize my summer trip! Wish me luck! And check back for more pics!!

Spring Break Pics

The beginning of Spring Break...

Wow! I can't believe it's Tuesday already! We tried to get out of Stu on Friday but everyone was trying to get out of the village so we made it out Saturday. This worked well because Mary Jane started to have MAJOR contractions so because she was able to stabilize and make it to Anchorage I was able to take Monkey with us on Saturday so she could be with her mom. Overall a very good situation!

We stayed in Anchorage Saturday night and went out to begin the St. Patty's Day celebrations...and I ran into Vince and Deborah it was awesome! We ended up having breakfast with them on Sunday before we headed to Alyeska.

Sunday after going to my new favorite store (Title Wave Books - a used bookstore, it's AWESOME!) and getting groceries (which was entertaining when we got settled into the condo we realized that we had only bought healthy food which included fresh fruits, vegetables and yogurt but had forgotten to get chips or other great late night junk food!) When we got in we walked around and just kind of hung out. The hottub has been GREAT!! Along with our view of the mountain. I'm still completely amazed by all of it!

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day so while everyone else was skiing/snowboarding, I walked into the Village of Girdwood...dude there's nothing there! Except a great coffee shop! But that's about it! It works though! We headed out to hear a live band last night though, which rocked! It was a mix of folk, old country (some GREAT Johnny Cash) and some Irish music. It was a riot just dancing and meeting random people.

So the pics are from our trip so far! One is Staci as we're sitting outside watching people come in from skiing and so forth. It's been amazing just with it being warm enough to sit outside and hang out. And of course today it's snowing which is fabulous! (Ok so I'm having some problems with getting the pics to load...I'm working on it!)

Friday!

Yeah! It's Friday and Spring Break officially starts today after school! Everyone is soo excited! I think Spring Fever has hit. Staci and I are hoping to get out today so keep your fingers crossed that we get out!

And now for new pictures! The pictures above are from the school cafeteria. Someone painted these in the 80s and we're fortunate enough to have them throughout both school buildings. I think they're fantastic paintings. Most of them won't be transferred to the new building as they were painted directly onto the walls. But enjoy anyway!

A play...

So today I went into the 8th grade classroom because one of our teachers and a couple of students were doing a play for the class. They did such a good job! I was so impressed! So here are the pictures of the play! Enjoy!!

Spring Break

So it's the week before Spring Break. Most kids are extremely excited but a lot of our students have never had a Spring Break before....so they really aren't acting all that different! I'm excited as I'm headed to Alyeska Ski Resort for the week (www.alyeskaresort.com). And yes I know I'm not allowed to ski but it'll still be fun nontheless!

And the weekend was fabulous! It was the first weekend in weeks that we haven't had basketball games or anything else going on...so as silly as this may sound I stayed home, watched DVDs, made jam and even worked some more on a blanket I'm making! And then it snowed....again!

The weather has been funny lately we'll have a few days where it's over freezing and then the next day the temperature drops and we'll have snow. It makes it slippery and not a whole lot of fun to be out in! But oh well...have I mentioned we're going on Spring Break next week?

And as for the latest pictures, I've not been doing a lot so I haven't taken pictures but we'll see. So...yeah I think that's it for the day! Wish us all luck for getting through the week! It's going to be tough!!

Science in February

So we had the local children's science museum out in February to show the kids some of the Yup'ik science that is out there. The pictures are from when the kids were playing a game and trying to answer questions. Overall I think they had a good time. The museum is called the Imaginarium and I'll actually be headed there in April with the middle schoolers when we head to Anchorage for the Pentathlon competition!

It's warm!

Ok so as crazy as this may sound it's getting warm around here! Yesterday we hit 37 degrees! Which also means that things are beginning to melt and that stuff is turning to ice...which is NOT fun! But oh well! I'm adding some more pictures from this past weekend as Carnival is over and we're trying to get back into the swing of things...and it's tough because the quarter ends on Friday and then next Friday is Spring Break! Crazy huh?! Well enjoy the pictures!

Dog Sled Race

Ok so we're in the middle of Beaver Fest...yesterday I saw my first Dog Sled Race! They do it in 3 days on a course that's about 18 miles long. So far the youngest Musher is taking the race by storm! Along with this are pictures of "Monkey". She's my 3 year old buddy who's name is Roxanne but since she climbs all the time I call her Monkey!
