It's December!!!

So I can't believe it's December already! Life has been busy! This weekend we had Wrestling Regionals here in Barrow (I scored so I got to see like ALL the action!) Plus we did a surprise birthday party and she REALLY had no idea! It was awesome! Overall things just keep getting busier! Next weekend I'm in Anchorage for a doctor's appointment and then on the 20th I fly to Michigan! I'm totally amazed that the year has gone that fast already!

I do have some sad news as our principal, who has been one of the best bosses I've ever had, has resigned for personal reasons. I'm sad, the staff is sad but we'll get through it as we always do!

Now more good news...I'm back to playing hockey and scored my first goal on Wednesday! It was awesome! And I'm totally stocked to be playing again! My tailbone is still messed up but I'm over it and am moving on with the world! Hope all is well and the holidays bring lots of sweet treats!

Wow, we have three weeks to go and school is half way over for the year! That just amazes me! Ok so I have a TON of pics to add but here are just a few...one is me in the car getting ready to go see a whale (I was a BIT excited!) The others are of me in a parka of one of my friends...she's obviously a LOT taller than I am. But this is a type of parka that most of the people here have as it has real fur and is INCREDIBLY warm (and yes Mom if I stay I'll be asking for one but I'll bring you the fur and fabric! LOL) It's amazing! The furs on this parka are polar bear and wolverine. I'm just amazed at the work and so forth in it!

Well I've been a slacker for awhile and therefore I haven't updated in awhile either! So here's some pics from Halloween and then from the day we put the lines in the ice! Life is good but crazy I'm playing hockey...and since Isaac Newton interfered it's been a bit sore! Oh well...life goes on! Enjoy the last full week before Thanksgiving!

Elections...

Ok so if you're paying attention the elections AT all then you realize that somehow Alaska has gotten INCREDIBLY involved! (And I had moved here to get away from it!) On top of that SNL has really gotten involved (so I laugh a LOT)! And since our local news is all about Palin we continue to laugh at the national news and what's being said and so forth. So in the view of humor and friends...here is a friend of mine who went to an Obama rally in Fairbanks (no I don't want comments of McCain being better or vice versa, this is JUST funny!) Another bite of whaling!

Ok so because one of my friends has more of a stomach then I do the pics are from her! There's one that shows how they move the whales from the water to the place where they cut it up (those pics I took earlier!) And the other is a plateful of Muktuk (whale) if you look close you'll see the intestine, tongue, etc! Enjoy!!

Bummed

Well EVERYONE else in the Borough was able to see Polar Bears this week...everyone but me! Oh well we did go out and see more whales and here I'm adding on the pics of the polar bears that people sent me...but I'm still bummed.

Yesterday they buried the 16 year old that died during the funeral on Monday. There is currently an investigation in case this was a "game" that our students are playing. I know, completely scary but at least people are taking action.

The week was insane! I'm really not sure how I'm going to get all the paperwork done but I am realizing that I've already made some great friends which is awesome!

Have I mentioned that one of my friends and I went in on a box of produce that comes every two weeks?? Oh yeah I currently have FRESH organic produce in my fridge! It's awesome!! Now if only my groceries would come in from Fred Meyer....oh well can't have it all I guess!

Another day...

Ok so the year is going by REALLY fast! It's absolutely insane!! But totally in a good way! So today's pics are from the snowbow I saw when walking to the post office today....the Barrow boat dock...an arctic fox...some pics of me at the "arch" with whale bones along with the Arctic Ocean finally starting to freeze over.

My first FULL whale...

Ok so I finally was able to see a full whale...it had just gotten up from the ocean (ok so like I was an hour late....but it was still more whole than it had been when I was there on Monday! It was awesome! So now I can say I have seen a 35 foot whale which was found 11 miles offshore earlier today. The boat dragged the whale in at a HUGE 5 miles per hour...so it takes FOREVER to get a whale in from the Arctic Ocean. But I a bumming because they have dropped the whale carcasses (or what's left of them) out at the point so the polar bears are having a FABULOUS time eating! So enjoy the pics and there may be more but Whaling season will probably be over by the weekend as I believe our quota is like 10 and we're almost halfway there!

My first whale....

Ok so whaling season has started and with it the joy of taking the whale apart....so this is what was left of a 40 foot whale when we got to it today! The other whale was a "small" one at 29 feet (yeah I was shocked too!) Oh well! Hopefully I'll be able to see a whole whale come up on the beach whole one day!!! Enjoy the pics!
